The news
The Microsoft Fabric ecosystem expanded on September 29, 2026, as three data vendors, ClickHouse, Atlan and Telmai, announced new or expanded integrations with Microsoft's Fabric analytics platform and its OneLake data lake while Microsoft hosted FabCon Europe in Barcelona.
The announcements followed a September 28 blog post by Arun Ulag, Microsoft (MSFT) executive vice president for Azure Data, which said Fabric supports more than 40,000 customers worldwide. Ulag pointed to growing partnerships with Atlan, dbt and ClickHouse, a two-way integration with Salesforce Data Cloud 360 in preview, and generally available mirroring of Google BigQuery data into OneLake.
ClickHouse, the open-source real-time analytics database company, announced four pieces: a ClickHouse workload for Microsoft Fabric in public preview, generally available support for reading Apache Iceberg tables in OneLake, public-preview support for writing to them, and its Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) deployment option on Microsoft Marketplace. ClickHouse said it has more than 4,000 customers.
Atlan, a data governance and metadata company, said its Microsoft Fabric connector is generally available, with version 2.0 shipped in August 2026. The company said the connector catalogs Fabric workspaces, lakehouses, warehouses, semantic models, reports, dashboards, dataflows and pipelines down to table and column level, and traces lineage. Atlan also said its Context Lakehouse stores business context in Apache Iceberg tables inside OneLake so it can be queried from Fabric; the release did not state a status for that integration and said Atlan is continuing to simplify it.
Telmai said its data reliability workload for Fabric is generally available to all Fabric customers through Microsoft Marketplace. According to the company, it monitors OneLake data for volume, schema, freshness and completeness across Delta Lake and Apache Iceberg tables, sends alerts through Jira and Microsoft Teams, and exposes data health signals to AI agents through a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Telmai did not disclose pricing.
Dipti Borkar, Microsoft's vice president for Microsoft IQ and OneLake, was quoted in all three announcements. In ClickHouse's release she said joint customers gain more analytical engines to choose from.
The numbers
- Fabric customers worldwide (Microsoft)
- More than 40,000
- ClickHouse customers (company figure)
- More than 4,000
- ClickHouse Fabric integrations announced
- 4 (workload in preview; OneLake read GA; write in preview; BYOC on Marketplace)
- Power BI customer semantic models (analyst Mike Leone, via TechTarget)
- More than 20 million
Why CEOs should care
For chief data officers, the practical gain is running more tools against one copy of data. Separate what is ready from what is not: ClickHouse's Fabric workload and its OneLake write support are in public preview, while OneLake reads, Atlan's connector and Telmai's workload are generally available, according to the companies. Atlan did not state a release status for its Context Lakehouse integration with OneLake. Pilot preview features, but keep production commitments to GA components and ask each vendor for the service-level terms that apply.
For CFOs and procurement teams, the billing path matters. ClickHouse's BYOC option and Telmai's workload are sold through Microsoft Marketplace, and Telmai did not publish a price. Ask how each partner product is billed, whether it runs on your Fabric capacity or its own infrastructure, and whether Marketplace purchases count toward any existing Microsoft spending commitment.
For CIOs and boards weighing lock-in, the useful test is data format and metadata portability. Atlan and ClickHouse describe their OneLake work in terms of Apache Iceberg, and Telmai supports Delta Lake and Iceberg tables, both open table formats other engines can read. Ask whether catalogs, lineage and quality rules built inside Fabric can be exported if you later add or move to another platform.
The bigger picture
Microsoft is positioning Fabric as the base layer for enterprise AI, and partners make that pitch stronger. TechTarget reported on September 29 that Constellation Research analyst Michael Ni sees Microsoft turning Fabric into an operating foundation for enterprise AI, with distribution as its main advantage because it can connect Power BI, OneLake, SQL and Copilot. Moor Insights & Strategy analyst Mike Leone pointed to the more than 20 million customer semantic models Microsoft manages in Power BI. Each partner that builds on OneLake adds value inside Fabric, and it can also raise the cost of leaving.
What’s next
FabCon Europe runs through October 1, 2026. Watch for general availability dates for ClickHouse's Fabric workload and OneLake write support, published pricing for Telmai's workload, and whether more governance and database vendors ship native Fabric workloads over the coming quarters. Buyers with Salesforce data should also track the two-way Salesforce Data Cloud 360 integration, which Microsoft still lists as a preview.
What “Fact-checked” means
Fact-checking means testing a story’s facts against the evidence before it is published. This story went through at least two separate checks before this version was published.
- What we checked
- Its names, figures, dates, job titles, quotes and who said what were checked against the story’s sources, including its main source where it could be opened. The headline was checked for accuracy and overstatement.
- How
- A first check reviewed the whole story. If it passed, a second, skeptical check went back to the sources to look for mistakes in the most important facts. If a check flagged the story, it was edited to fix the problems found, and a separate re-check then reviewed the whole story again.
- Who
- The checks are made by our newsroom, as steps kept separate from the writing, under rules set by our editor, Hussein Mukhtar. A story the checks still flag is held for the editor, who decides whether it is fixed, published or dropped.
- If something is wrong
- “Fact-checked” does not mean error-free. If a material error is found after publication, we correct the story and add a note saying what changed. Report an error
