The news
Meta on September 28 announced Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business unit that will sell its AI technology to companies and developers. The initial lineup includes the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, the Muse API and Muse Code, the company said.
The unit will be led by Chirantan “CJ” Desai as chief enterprise platform officer, reporting directly to Mark Zuckerberg. Desai was CEO of MongoDB, and before that led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent about eight years at ServiceNow, where he was president and chief operating officer.
Meta said the strategy is to combine its models and agents with its infrastructure and its existing relationships with millions of advertisers and businesses. It said security and privacy are built into the enterprise products from the start. It did not disclose pricing or customers.
Desai resigned from MongoDB effective immediately after less than a year as CEO. Former CEO Dev Ittycheria returned as interim chief while the board searches for a successor, and MongoDB reaffirmed its current-quarter and fiscal 2027 guidance. Its shares fell about 20%, according to Investing.com.

Why CEOs should care
Enterprise buyers are about to get another heavyweight AI vendor. Meta’s pitch leans on relationships it already has with businesses through advertising and messaging, which could make it a natural option for customer-facing agents in sales and support. Hiring an executive who ran enterprise operations at ServiceNow signals Meta intends to build a real B2B sales and support motion, not just release models.
Before signing on, buyers should ask the basics Meta has not yet answered publicly: pricing, data-use terms, where data is processed, and service-level commitments. Boards of software companies should also note the MongoDB reaction. AI platforms are now recruiting sitting enterprise CEOs, and succession planning for key executives deserves a fresh look.
The bigger picture
The enterprise market is where AI labs are chasing durable revenue. OpenAI and Anthropic have spent the past year building sales teams, partner networks and marketplaces. Meta arrives later but with enormous infrastructure and distribution.
What's next
Watch for Meta’s first named enterprise customers and pricing, how it positions Muse against OpenAI and Anthropic, and whether MongoDB’s Investor Day this week steadies its shares.
