The news
Salesforce (CRM) disclosed in a Form 8-K on August 5, 2026, that Srini Tallapragada would step down as president and chief engineering and customer success officer, effective August 6, and become special advisor to Chair and CEO Marc Benioff.
The advisory role runs through August 6, 2027. According to the filing, Tallapragada will help transition his duties and advise on product, technology and innovation matters, business development and customer-related matters.
The filing named no successor, but CNBC reported the same day that Rohan Kumar, who joined from Microsoft in June, was becoming chief platform and engineering officer, taking on new engineering responsibility. Neither named a new customer success chief.
A transition agreement sets his pay. Through January 31, 2027, his cash compensation is his salary at the current rate plus his annual bonus. For the rest of the advisory period, it is calculated at a rate of $75,000 a year. Previously granted equity awards continue to vest under their terms, and the agreement includes a customary release of claims.
The agreement can end early if Salesforce terminates it for cause, if Tallapragada resigns with ten days' notice, or if he takes a job with another employer, according to the filing. The 8-K was signed by Sabastian Niles, Salesforce's president and chief legal officer.
Tallapragada spent more than 14 years at Salesforce. The company's annual report for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026, says he joined in May 2012 as senior vice president of engineering, became president and chief engineering officer in December 2019, and added customer success to his title in February 2025. Before Salesforce he was a senior vice president at Oracle and at SAP Labs. The annual report also lists him as a director of GoDaddy.

Why CEOs should care
For Salesforce customers, the combined role mattered because it linked the people who build the products with the people who help customers use them. When one executive owns both, escalations and roadmap questions have a clear path to the top. Buyers with large Salesforce estates should ask their account team who now owns customer success, whether their success plan or named contacts change, and who signs off on escalations.
CFOs and procurement leads should check that any product commitments they rely on are written into contracts rather than resting on relationships with individual executives. A leadership change is also a practical moment to confirm support entitlements and service levels before renewal talks. Ask, too, whether any executive sponsor named in your agreement or success plan has changed.
CISOs should confirm that vulnerability-response contacts and security escalation paths are unchanged, since engineering leadership owns how fixes ship. Boards can take a governance lesson: when a vendor, or your own company, concentrates engineering and customer success under one leader, succession planning for that seat carries more weight.
The bigger picture
The exit came in a wider reshuffle. CNBC reported on August 5, 2026, that Salesforce also promoted chief revenue officer Miguel Milano to chief operating officer, with Robin Washington keeping her chief operating and financial officer title, and made chief sales officer Alexa Vignone revenue chief. Kumar had arrived as president and chief platform officer after 28 years at Microsoft, Salesforce Ben reported on June 8. Salesforce has put Agentforce, its AI agent platform, at the center of its product announcements, so engineering leadership bears directly on how those products are built and supported.
Customer success joined Tallapragada's remit only in February 2025, according to the annual report, pairing the teams that build Salesforce products with the teams that help customers deploy them. With engineering under Kumar and Milano described as responsible for accelerating customer success, the two jobs no longer sit with one executive, changing who customers deal with when an agent rollout runs into trouble.
What happened next
On August 10, Salesforce Ben reported that Miguel Milano, as chief operating officer, leads customer-facing growth teams and "is responsible for accelerating customer success," echoing his Salesforce biography. On August 17, KARV Tech Insider, citing Kumar's LinkedIn post, reported his title as president and chief platform and engineering officer, which his Salesforce biography confirms.
On August 26, Salesforce reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $11.3 billion, up 11% with $456 million from Informatica. It said Agentforce annual recurring revenue exceeded $1.5 billion, under a definition broadened that quarter to count its AI offerings, Slackbot and Headless 360.
