Apple (AAPL) began rolling out Siri AI, a rebuilt assistant that understands personal context and takes actions inside apps, on September 14, 2026, as a beta in English alongside iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27.
Apple said the new capabilities run on the next generation of Apple Foundation Models, which it described as custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models. The company said Private Cloud Compute, its cloud system, gives users access to frontier-level intelligence, and that when it handles requests, personal data is not stored or made accessible to Apple or anyone else. Apple added that outside experts can verify that promise.
Siri AI can search a user's messages, email and photos to complete multi-step tasks, answer questions about what is on screen, and take actions inside third-party apps. Apple listed WhatsApp and Audible as current integrations, with Microsoft Outlook email drafting, Notability and Tripsy coming. On the Mac, TechCrunch reported that Siri can review documents, draft and proofread text, and search files, email and messages. A new standalone Siri app syncs conversation history across devices through iCloud.
Access is limited. Siri AI requires an iPhone 16 or later or an iPhone 15 Pro model; an iPad with an M1 chip or later, or the A17 Pro iPad mini; a Mac with M1 or later, or the A18 Pro MacBook Neo; Apple Vision Pro; or an Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Ultra 2 or later, or SE 3 paired with a supported iPhone. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish arrive in October. Apple said Siri AI is not initially available in the European Union on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and that availability in China depends on regulatory approval. 9to5Mac reported that users must join a waitlist in Settings.
Apple also set usage limits. Server-side features, including Siri AI, face daily caps that vary by feature, complexity, demand and policy, the company said, adding: “Expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future.” 9to5Mac reported that iOS 27 asks users to opt in to sharing Siri, Dictation and Translate audio and text to improve Apple's foundation models, tied to a rotating random identifier rather than an Apple Account.

Why CEOs should care
For CIOs and CISOs, Siri AI arrives on employee devices with access to email, messages and files, and Apple's announcement did not describe business-specific controls. Before the waitlist clears for your staff, ask your device management vendor and Apple which Siri AI features can be restricted on managed iPhones and Macs, how the Outlook integration handles corporate mail, and whether requests routed to Private Cloud Compute meet your data handling policies. Update acceptable-use guidance to cover the new opt-in prompt for sharing audio and text with Apple.
Procurement and vendor risk teams should map the model supply chain. Apple says its models were built in collaboration with Google's Gemini, so organizations that restrict certain AI providers should clarify with Apple how data flows and who operates what. The daily caps and Apple's plan to charge for expanded access also mean assistant capacity on company devices may become a budget item, much like per-seat AI licenses.
Global companies should plan for uneven capability. With Siri AI unavailable at first on iPhone and iPad in the EU, and pending in China, employees in different regions will have different tools, which complicates training, support and policy.
The bigger picture
The launch comes as John Ternus leads Apple as chief executive, with Tim Cook now executive chairman, according to TechCrunch. At Apple's September 9 event, Ternus argued the iPhone remains the best AI device and that Apple Intelligence runs on the device whenever it can. The release also makes Siri's ability to act inside third-party apps, from WhatsApp to Outlook, part of a wider contest over which AI assistants get to act inside apps and on whose terms. Apple says its new models were custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models, though it has not detailed what role Google played in building them.
What’s next
Watch for the October language expansion, any disclosure of what the paid tier will cost, and whether Apple publishes management controls for business customers. EU and China availability remain open questions, as does the timing of promised Outlook, Notability and Tripsy integrations.
