The 60-second brief

  • 1On October 6 Meta said its business AI assistant can plan campaigns, change targeting and budgets conversationally.
  • 2A customer lifecycle strategy tool for picking audiences per campaign is available to all advertisers, according to Meta.
  • 3Meta's Business Agent on Messenger adds direct checkout through Shopify; Meta AI checkout is in testing.

The news

Meta Platforms (META) announced a set of AI advertising tools on October 6, 2026, at Advertising Week in New York, according to PYMNTS and TechJuice. The updates span campaign planning, audience selection, video creation and checkout across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger.

The centerpiece is Meta's business AI assistant. Meta said advertisers can use it to "plan and create a campaign, generate creative imagery and text, update targeting, or change a budget conversationally," PYMNTS reported. TechJuice reported that the assistant can now draw on historical campaign data, seasonal patterns and previously stated goals, that advertisers can import brand voice guidelines and strategy documents, and that Meta is testing scheduled tasks that send automated performance reports and alerts.

For finding customers, Meta introduced a customer lifecycle strategy tool that TechJuice said is available to all advertisers. According to PYMNTS, marketers can mark a campaign as being for acquisition and receive recommendations on excluding existing customers.

On creative, Meta made its Advantage+ tool for turning static images into video ads generally available, TechJuice reported, and widened access to Ads Creative Studio, which generates video concepts with controls for hooks, audio, length, text overlays and captions. Meta says video accounts for more than 60% of the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram, PYMNTS reported.

Meta also pushed further into commerce. Its Business Agent on Messenger now supports direct checkout through a partnership with Shopify (SHOP), and Meta is testing checkout inside Meta AI with payment partners Adyen, PayPal, Shopify and Stripe, according to TechJuice. TechJuice added that Meta expanded its Ads MCP server so outside AI tools can manage campaigns. MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is a standard for connecting AI agents to software.

Why CEOs should care

For chief marketing officers, Meta is offering to do more of what agencies and in-house teams do: set audiences, write and render creative, shift budgets and report results. That can cut cost and speed up testing, but it also concentrates decisions inside the platform that sells the ads. Ask how each automated change is logged, whether you can cap budget moves the assistant makes, and how results are measured independently of Meta's own reporting.

Agencies should expect clients to ask what they add beyond Meta's built-in tools. Strategy, cross-platform planning and independent measurement are harder for a single platform to replace. The expanded Ads MCP server also means agencies can plug their own AI agents into Meta campaigns, which is an opening for firms that build tooling.

For e-commerce and finance leaders, checkout inside Messenger and Meta AI moves the sale closer to the ad. Check which customer data Meta receives through checkout, how returns and disputes are handled with Shopify or your payment provider, and whether attribution changes when the purchase never touches your website. Brand teams uploading voice guidelines and strategy documents should confirm how that material is stored and used.

The bigger picture

The announcements fit a broader shift in digital advertising toward automation run by the platforms themselves. Meta's pitch is that its AI can carry a campaign from audience selection to purchase without leaving its apps. For advertisers, the trade-off is convenience and reach against control and transparency.

What’s next

Watch for results from Meta's scheduled-task and Meta AI checkout tests, wider availability of Ads Creative Studio, and how quickly large advertisers and agencies adopt the conversational assistant for budget changes.

What “Fact-checked” means

Fact-checking means testing a story’s facts against the evidence before it is published. This story went through at least two separate checks before this version was published.

What we checked
Its names, figures, dates, job titles, quotes and who said what were checked against the story’s sources, including its main source where it could be opened. The headline was checked for accuracy and overstatement.
How
A first check reviewed the whole story. If it passed, a second, skeptical check went back to the sources to look for mistakes in the most important facts. If a check flagged the story, it was edited to fix the problems found, and a separate re-check then reviewed the whole story again.
Who
The checks are made by our newsroom, as steps kept separate from the writing, under rules set by our editor, . A story the checks still flag is held for the editor, who decides whether it is fixed, published or dropped.
If something is wrong
“Fact-checked” does not mean error-free. If a material error is found after publication, we correct the story and add a note saying what changed. Report an error
